🎯 Mastering Filters
The Explore page has a powerful set of filters that help you narrow down millions of ads to exactly what you need. This guide walks you through every filter so you can find the right ads faster.
Before You Start
- Credits: Using filters is completely free.
- How to get there: Click Explore in the left sidebar. The filter panel is on the left side of the screen.
How Filters Work
- All filters can be combined — stack as many as you need for a laser-focused search.
- Most filters apply the moment you pick an option. Filters where you type a number — like Run time, Brand active ads and Estimated spend — open a small panel with Cancel and Apply, so your results only refresh once you click Apply.
- A count badge appears on each filter showing how many options you've selected.
- Click Clear all at the top of the panel to reset everything.
- Your active filters are saved in the URL, so you can share your filtered view with someone else. To keep a filter combination for yourself, save it as a Favourite Search instead — bookmarking is for sharing, not for saving.
Ad Format
Choose which types of ad creatives to show:
- Video
- Image
- Carousel
- Dynamic Creative (DCO)
- Dynamic Product Ads (DPA)
- Multi Images
- Multi Videos
- Multi Media
- Event
- Page Like
Select one or more to focus on the formats you care about.
Status
Gethookd now shows active ads only across the entire platform. All ads you see in Explore and Brand Spy are currently running — inactive ads have been removed from search results.
This filter is no longer needed and will be removed in a future update.
Niche
Focus on a specific industry. The dropdown is searchable and grouped into:
- Top Niches — Beauty, Health/Wellness, Fashion, Pets, Sports/Outdoors
- All Niches — the full list sorted A to Z
Select one or more niches to filter your results by industry.
Page Type
Filter ads by the type of landing page they link to. The dropdown is searchable and includes:
- Product Page — ads linking directly to a product page
- Collection/Category — ads linking to a collection or category page
- Listicle — ads linking to listicle-style content
- Advertorial — ads linking to advertorial or editorial-style pre-sell pages
- Squeeze/Lead Capture — ads linking to lead generation or opt-in pages
- VSL Page — ads linking to video sales letter pages
Select one or more page types to narrow your results. This is especially useful for studying competitors' funnel strategies — for example, filtering for Advertorial to see which brands use pre-sell pages before their store.
Run Time
Filter ads by how long they've been running. Open the Run time filter and fill in one or both boxes:
- Minimum days — only show ads that have been live for at least this many days. Enter "30" to see ads that have been running a month or longer.
- Maximum days — only show ads that have been live for no more than this many days. Enter "14" to see only fresh, recently launched ads.
Click Apply to run it. Set both to search a window — for example 30 to 90 days finds ads that are proven but still current. The count badge on the filter shows how many boxes you've filled in (a minimum and a maximum shows 2).
Longer-running ads are often a sign they're working well for the brand. Shorter run times are useful for spotting what a brand is testing right now.
Start Date
Pick a date range to see ads that started running during a specific period. Use this to find fresh campaigns or look back at what was running during a particular season.
Language
Find ads targeting a specific language. The dropdown is searchable — start typing to find the language you need, then select one or more.
Country
Search ads by the country they target. The dropdown is searchable and includes:
- All — show ads from every country (selecting this clears any specific selections)
- Top locations — the most common countries
- Full list — every available country
Don't see your country? Here's how to request it:
- Type the country name in the search field
- If it's not in our list, a Request a Country button will appear below the search field
- Click the button to submit your request
- Our team will review it and work on adding that country to the filter
We're continuously expanding our country coverage based on user requests, so don't hesitate to let us know which countries you need.
Channels
Select which advertising platforms to show ads from:
- Messenger
- Audience Network
- Threads
- TikTok Creative Center
- TikTok Ads
- TikTok Organic
Select one or more to focus on specific platforms.
Performance Score
Filter by how well ads are performing, shown as star ratings:
Stars | Level | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Winning | Exceptional ads driving maximum results |
⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Optimized | High-performing and well-tuned |
⭐⭐⭐ | Growing | Consistently performing with strong potential |
⭐⭐ | Scaling | Showing promise, needs more optimization |
⭐ | Testing | Early-stage ad, still gathering data |
Select one or more star levels. Hover over any level to see a description of what it means.
The score takes into account how long the ad has been running, how widely its creative is reused, how active the brand is, and the ad's impression volume.
Ad Rank
Ad Rank ranks each ad against the other ads from the same brand, so you can instantly spot a brand's strongest creatives. Open the Ad Rank filter and set two things:
Rank by — the metric used to rank the ads:
- Impressions — by estimated reach (most-seen ads rank highest)
- Run Time — by how long the ad has been live (longest-running ranks highest)
- Duplication — by how often the creative is reused (most-reused ranks highest)
Top % — a slider with quick presets (Top 20% / 10% / 5% / 1%). It keeps only the ads that fall in that top slice of their brand for the metric you chose. For example, Impressions + Top 1% surfaces each brand's very best-performing creatives.
Every matching ad shows an Ad Rank pill — a small chart icon and the ad's percentile (e.g. 1%, meaning the top 1% of its brand). Hover the pill to open a ranking card with the ad's exact position within its brand, its best-ever rank, and a trend chart. See Understanding Ad Details for the full breakdown.
Estimated Spend
Filter ads by how much a brand has likely spent on them. GetHookd estimates each ad's spend from its EU reach × a CPM (cost per 1,000 views), so you can separate big-budget campaigns from small tests.
Open the Estimated spend filter and set:
- CPM — a slider from $1 to $50 (default $10). This is the cost-per-1,000-views rate used in the estimate. On its own it doesn't filter anything — it's just the multiplier behind the numbers.
- Total spend — type a minimum, a maximum, or both. This is what actually filters your results: only ads whose estimated spend falls in that range are shown.
Click Apply to run it. The count badge on the filter chip shows how many thresholds you've set (a min and a max shows 2). Changing only the CPM won't apply on its own — you need at least a min or a max.
Each matching ad shows an estimated-spend badge (e.g. $36.5) on its card.
Good to know:
- This is an estimate, not Meta's real spend — Meta never publishes exact ad spend, so treat it as a way to compare ads against each other rather than an exact figure.
- The estimate is based on EU reach, so ads without EU reach are excluded from the results while this filter is active.
CTA Type
Filter ads by their call-to-action button. The most popular CTAs appear at the top for quick access:
Popular:
- Shop Now
- Learn More
- Order Now
- Download
All CTAs:
- Shop Now, Learn More, Sign Up, Order Now, Install App, Download, Watch More, Book Travel, Get Offer, Play Game, Get Quote, Apply Now, Subscribe, Message, WhatsApp, Donate Now, Book Now, Contact Us, No Button
This is great for analyzing which CTAs work best in your niche, or finding ads optimized for specific funnel stages.
Static Ad Style
Filter static image ads by their design style — for example, Before and After, FAQ Explainers, Holiday themes, and more. Great for finding ads that match your brand's creative direction.
Categories are loaded from our database and only show styles that have active ads.
Technologies
Filter ads by the technology behind the advertiser's website. Technologies are grouped by category:
- E-commerce — Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, and more
- Funnel Builder — ClickFunnels, Kajabi, Kartra, Leadpages, Funnelish, and more
- CMS — WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, and more
- Analytics — various tracking and analytics platforms
The dropdown is searchable — type a technology name to find it quickly. Use this to spy on what brands using a specific platform are advertising.
Viewing Technologies on an Ad
When you click any ad card to open its details, scroll to the Overview tab to see which technologies were detected on the advertiser's landing page. Technologies appear as color-coded badges grouped by category:
- Green — E-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce)
- Purple — Funnel builders (e.g., ClickFunnels, Kajabi)
- Blue — CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Webflow)
- Orange — Analytics tools
Each badge includes the technology's icon and name. If technologies haven't been detected yet for an ad, you'll see a "Detect Technologies" button — click it to scan the advertiser's landing page and reveal what they're using.
Why this matters: Knowing what platform a competitor uses helps you understand their funnel strategy — are they running Shopify with a standard product page, or using ClickFunnels for a high-converting sales funnel?
Creative Usage
Filter by how many other ads reuse the same creative and copy. Type a minimum number — for example, enter "5" to only see creatives used in 5 or more ads.
A high creative usage count often means the creative is performing well enough to keep reusing.
Brand Active Ads
Filter by how many active ads a brand currently has. Open the Brand active ads filter and fill in one or both boxes:
- More than — only show ads from brands running at least this many active ads. Enter "50" to find big advertisers investing heavily.
- Less than — only show ads from brands running no more than this many active ads. Enter "10" to find smaller, leaner brands.
Click Apply to run it. Set both to target a size of advertiser — for example 5 to 20 active ads finds brands testing seriously without drowning your feed in one big spender. The count badge shows how many boxes you've filled in (both shows 2).
Min Ad Copy Length
Filter ads by the minimum length of their ad copy text. Type a minimum number of characters — for example, enter "100" to only see ads with at least 100 characters of copy.
This is useful for finding ads with longer, more detailed copy (sales-style ads, storytelling, listicle hooks) versus short punchy one-liners.
Video Length
Filter video ads by duration:
- Less than 1 minute
- 1 to 3 minutes
- 3 to 5 minutes
- 5 minutes+
Select one or more to focus on the video lengths that match your strategy.
Ads Per Brand
Limit how many ads show from any single brand. This prevents one brand from dominating your results.
- Default: 4 ads per brand
- Range: 1 to 50
Lower the number for more variety across brands. Raise it if you want to deep-dive into a specific brand's creatives.
Hide Brands
Exclude specific brands from your results. The dropdown is searchable and paginated — type a brand name, find it, and check the box to hide it.
Hidden brands stay hidden as long as the filter is active. Remove them anytime by unchecking.
EU Transparency
Toggle this on to see only ads that include EU transparency data (required for ads running in the EU). Once enabled, you get access to extra filters:
- Gender — All, Men, or Women
- Age — 13–17, 18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, 55–64, 65+
- Ad Reach — type a minimum number to find ads with meaningful audience exposure
Your results update automatically as you adjust these.
Why use this?
- See ads that meet EU advertising regulations
- Get audience demographic insights for better targeting analysis
- Understand which age groups and genders brands are reaching
Pro Tips
- Start broad, then narrow down. Begin with one or two filters (like Niche + Performance Score) and add more as you refine.
- Use Ads Per Brand for variety. Keep it at 4 or lower to see a wide mix of creatives from different brands.
- Combine CTA + Niche to find the most effective calls-to-action in your industry.
- Filter by Run Time + Winning to find ads that have been running long AND performing well — these are the proven winners.
- Use the upper bounds to find hidden gems. Set Run time to a maximum of 14 days and Brand active ads to less than 20 to catch small brands launching something new, before everyone else copies it.
- Save your filters. Click the star icon in the search bar to save a filter combination you use often. You can reapply it with one click next time.
FAQs
Do filters cost credits?
No. All filtering, searching, and browsing is completely free.
Can I combine all filters at once?
Yes! Every filter works together. Just keep in mind that very specific combinations may return fewer results.
Why can't I click Apply?
Check that your maximum isn't smaller than your minimum. If it is, you'll see a short message under the boxes and Apply stays greyed out until you fix the numbers — that way an impossible range never wipes out your results.
Do I have to fill in both boxes on Run time and Brand active ads?
No. A minimum on its own, a maximum on its own, or both together all work.
Why am I seeing no results?
Your filter combination might be too restrictive. Try removing one filter at a time to see which one is narrowing things too much.
Do my filters reset when I leave the page?
Yes. The easiest way is to save it as a Favourite Search: click Save in the Filters bar, then reopen it any time from the star at the top right of the search bar. Your active filters also live in the URL, so bookmarking or sharing that link works too.
