🧠 Understand the Ad Performance Score

Our Performance Score is your shortcut to spotting what’s working — without digging through piles of metrics. Whether you’re looking for inspiration or benchmarking against top ads, this score helps you move faster and make smarter decisions.

What Is the Performance Score?

Each ad on GetHookd includes a 1 to 5-star Performance Score.

The score is calculated using multiple performance signals, including:

  • How long the ad has been running — ads that stay live longer tend to be working well for the brand
  • How widely the creative is reused — when the same creative and copy appear across multiple campaigns, it’s usually a sign of success
  • How active the brand is — brands running many ads give context to how competitive their ad portfolio is
  • Impression volume — the ad’s estimated reach and audience exposure

Together, these signals help identify ads that are gaining traction — even early — without requiring access to ROAS, CTR, or spend data.

Score Tiers Explained

When you hover over the star rating on any ad card, you’ll see the tier label. Here’s what each one means:

Stars

Tier

What It Means

Testing

Early-stage ad, still gathering initial performance data

⭐⭐

Scaling

Showing promise but needs more optimization

⭐⭐⭐

Growing

Consistently performing with strong potential

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Optimized

High-performing and well-tuned

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Winning

Exceptional — driving maximum results

The higher the star rating, the stronger the combined signals are for that ad.

Dynamic & Continuously Updated

Performance Scores are updated regularly as new data becomes available.

This means:

  • New ads can score highly if they show strong early traction
  • Scores may increase or decrease over time as the ad’s performance changes
  • You’ll see momentum faster — not weeks later

This allows you to spot breakout creatives while they’re still fresh.

Low impression ads: Ads with very few impressions (fewer than 100) are automatically set to Testing (1 star) regardless of other factors. There simply isn’t enough data yet to score them accurately. As the ad gains more impressions, the score will update to reflect its true performance.

How to Use the Performance Score

There are a few ways to put the score to work:

  • Filter by score — On the Explore page, use the Performance Score filter in the left panel to only see ads at a specific star level. Select "Winning" to jump straight to the best performers.
  • Sort for winners — Combine the Performance Score filter with sort options like "Longest running" or "Most used" to surface proven creatives.
  • Hover for details — Hover over the stars on any ad card to see the tier name and a quick description of what that level means.
  • Compare across niches — Filter by Niche + Performance Score to see what top-performing ads look like in a specific industry.

Why This Matters

Instead of manually comparing publish dates or guessing which ads are actually working, the Performance Score helps you:

  • Skip underperformers and save time
  • Prioritize high-signal creatives for inspiration
  • Identify winners earlier in their lifecycle
  • Study ads that are actively scaling, not just surviving

FAQs

How often is the score updated?

Scores are recalculated regularly as new performance data comes in. An ad’s score can change over time as it gains more impressions, runs longer, or gets reused in more campaigns.

Why is an ad showing only 1 star?

There are two common reasons: the ad is brand new and hasn’t been running long enough to build a score, or the ad has very few impressions (fewer than 100). In both cases, the score will update as more data becomes available.

Can an ad’s score go down?

Yes. If an ad stops running or newer data shows weaker performance signals, the score may decrease. The score always reflects the current state of the ad.

Do I need a specific plan to see Performance Scores?

No. Performance Scores are visible on all paid plans as part of the Explore page.

Can I filter by Performance Score?

Yes! Use the Performance Score filter in the left panel on the Explore page. You can select one or more star levels to narrow your results.
